Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Hup ("we", "us", "the app") handles your information. Hup is made by ADD Studios in the Netherlands.
The short version: Hup records your activities on your own phone. We have no account system, no server and no analytics. Your data stays on your device unless you choose to share it.
Who is responsible
ADD Studios is responsible for the app. You can reach us at hello@addstudios.nl.
What the app stores on your phone
When you record an activity, Hup stores on your device:
- the type of activity (for example running, walking or cycling) and when it started and ended;
- your route: location points with time, accuracy, altitude, speed and direction;
- values from sensors you connect, such as heart rate, speed, cadence and power;
- the sensors you paired: their type, name and device identifier, so the app can reconnect;
- a technical log for troubleshooting, without location coordinates.
This data is stored only in the app's storage on your phone. It is not sent to us or to anyone else.
Permissions
- Location: to record your route. On Android, Hup records in the background through a visible notification and does not ask for background location access. On iOS, Hup can keep recording while the screen is off.
- Bluetooth: to find and connect to sensors such as a heart rate strap. On Android, Hup does not use Bluetooth scanning to determine your location.
Hup works without an internet connection.
When your data leaves your phone
Only when you decide. From the app you can share:
- a diagnostic file, which contains timing, sensor values (including heart rate) and a technical log, but no location coordinates and no sensor names or identifiers;
- a GPX file of an activity, which contains your route with location coordinates, plus heart rate, cadence and power if recorded.
You choose where a file goes, for example by email or to a storage app. From that moment, the privacy policy of that service applies. Keep in mind that a route often starts and ends at home.
Services from Apple and Google
- Location services: your phone's operating system determines your location. On Android this usually uses Google Play services, on iPhone Apple's location services. Their privacy policies apply to that processing.
- Crash reports: if you have allowed your phone to share analytics with app developers, Apple or Google may show us crash and stability reports. You can turn this off in your phone's settings.
- Phone backups: if you use iCloud Backup or Google backup, your phone may include Hup's data in its backup. That backup is handled by Apple or Google under their terms. On iPhone you can leave Hup out of iCloud Backup in your iCloud settings.
- App stores: downloading and updating the app through the App Store or Google Play is covered by their privacy policies.
How long data is kept
Your activities stay on your phone until you delete the app. Deleting the app removes all its data from your phone. Files you shared stay wherever you sent them.
Your rights
We do not hold any personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you are in the EU/EEA, you still have the right to contact us or your data protection authority with any question or complaint.
Children
Hup is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. Since the app does not send data to us, we do not hold any.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top before the new version of the app is released.
